  • American Mountain Guides Association: The American Mountain Guide Association is a non-profit organization that seeks to represent the interests of American mountain guides by providing support, education, and standards.
  • Central Sierra Historical Society: Creates and operates an historical society and museum for the purpose of preservation and display of the history, antiques, artifacts, and historical memorabilia of the Central Sierra mountain area.
  • High Sierra Hikers Association: Nonprofit association dedicated to educating its members and the general public about issues affecting hikers in the High Sierra.
  • Leave No Trace: National non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships.
  • Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) Association: From desert to glacier-flanked mountain, meadow to forest, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) symbolizes everything there is to love - and protect - in the Western United States.
  • Sequoia National History Association: Non-profit membership organization dedicated to supporting education, interpretation, research, and the natural and historic preservation of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Devils Postpile National Monument, Lake Kaweah, and other areas of the National Park System.

The Big Trails

  • American Discovery Trail: The American Discovery Trail stretches across more than 6,800 miles and 15 states. The ADT is the only coast-to-coast, non-motorized recreational trail. Linking communities, cities, parks and wilderness, the ADT allows people to hike, bike or ride horses for an afternoon ora cross-country adventure.
  • Appalachian Mountain Club: Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is America's oldest conservation and recreation organization. We promote the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers, and trails of the Appalachian region.
  • Appalachian Trail Home Page: The Appalachian Trail is a continuous marked footpath that goes from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia, a distance of about 2160 miles.

  • California Conservation Corps: The CCC is the oldest, largest and longest-running youth conservation corps in the world!   • Hubble Space Telescope: Official Hubble Space Telescope site.
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA): Official NASA site. This link bypasses the irritating flash intro.
  • National Optical Astronomy Observatories: NOAO's purpose is to provide the best ground-based astronomical telescopes to the nation's astronomers, to promote public understanding and support of science, and to help advance all aspects of US astronomy. As a national facility, NOAO telescopes are open to all astronomers regardless of institutional affiliation.

  • Muir Trail Ranch: The Muir Trail Ranch is located in Central California in the High Sierra, at 7600 feet elevation. We have log cabins, horseback riding, and hot spring baths. We are open during the summer months, from June to September. We can accommodate up to 20 or so guests at a time, and mostly book the ranch by the week to groups of 15 or more people (exceptions are the Short Stay weeks in June and September). You arrive and depart on Saturdays.

  • Vermilion Valley Resort at Edison Lake: Nestled in the beautiful Sierra Nevada back country, just a mile off the PCT and JMT, Vermilion Valley Resort at Edison Lake is the type of rustic paradise that John Muir would have truly treasured!
